Where is Chester, Texas?
Chester is found in the northwestern part of Tyler County. The town covers about 1.6 square miles (4.1 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Chester's History
Chester got its name from President Chester A. Arthur. The town started in 1883. This happened when a new railway line was built. The Trinity and Sabine Railway connected towns from east to west. The new line passed a few miles from an older village called Peach Tree Village.
Many people and businesses moved to be closer to the railway. The post office, a Masonic Lodge, and several stores moved. A. B. Green, who was the postmaster of Peach Tree Village, became the first postmaster of Chester. The town of Chester officially became a town in 1968.
Chester's Baseball Team
Chester is also known for its high school baseball team. In 2024, the team, led by Coach Coleman Butter, made it to the state baseball tournament. This was a big achievement for the town.
