Chinatown is a small, unofficial community in Wisconsin, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that are part of a larger area, in this case, the town of Osceola.

Even though it's called Chinatown, this area doesn't have a traditional Chinatown like you might find in big cities. It doesn't have a large population of people of Chinese heritage or many businesses related to Chinese culture.

Where is Chinatown, Wisconsin?

Chinatown is located in Fond du Lac County, which is in the eastern part of Wisconsin. It sits right on the northeast shore of a beautiful body of water called Long Lake. This spot is also very close to the border of Sheboygan County.

How Did Chinatown Get Its Name?

The name "Chinatown" for this community is quite interesting! It comes from a local story or "tradition." Early on, some of the houses built along the lakeside in this area were constructed on stilts. These stilts made the houses look a bit like certain types of buildings or homes that people might imagine in parts of Asia, sometimes described as having an "Oriental appearance." Because of this unique look, people started calling the area "Chinatown."
