Chinchiná is a lively town and a municipality in Colombia. It is located in the Caldas department, about 17 kilometers (11 miles) southwest of Manizales.
This town was started in 1857 by settlers from Antioquia. Chinchiná sits in a beautiful valley. This valley is surrounded by many coffee farms, known as "fincas." These farms are nestled in the Central Cordillera of the Andes mountains.
Chinchiná is often called Colombia's "coffee heart." It is home to the Buendía coffee factory. It also has Cenicafé, a special center for coffee research.
Because of its strong connection to coffee, Chinchiná was recognized by UNESCO in 2011. It became part of the "Coffee Cultural Landscape," a World Heritage Site. This means it is a place of global importance.
About 30 kilometers (19 miles) to the east, there is an active volcano called Nevado del Ruiz.
Chinchiná is located at 5 degrees North and 75 degrees 35 minutes West. It is about 1,360 meters (4,462 feet) above sea level. The average temperature there is around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).
