Chinderah is a small town in the Tweed Shire area of New South Wales, Australia. It is located south of Tweed Heads and right next to the beach town of Kingscliff. In Chinderah, you can find a business area, a golf course, and a few shops.
History of Chinderah
Chinderah was first mapped out in 1863. It quickly became a farming area. Growing sugarcane was a very important industry here.
Sadly, many South Sea Islanders were brought to Chinderah. They were forced to work in the sugarcane fields. This was part of a cruel practice called "blackbirding."
In 1996, the main road, the Pacific Highway, was built right through the town.
Recent Floods
In 2022, Chinderah faced very heavy floods. The Tweed River overflowed its banks. This caused a lot of damage to the town.
