Chita is a small, quiet community in Trinity County, Texas, in the United States. It's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own city government like a big town. In the year 2000, about 81 people called Chita home. It's part of the larger area around Huntsville, Texas.
A Look Back at Chita's History
People first started settling in the Chita area around the time of the American Civil War. But the actual community of Chita didn't really form until the 1890s.
In 1895, Chita got its own post office, which was a big deal for sending and receiving mail! This post office stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1929.
By 1914, Chita was a busy little place. It had a general store where people could buy everyday things. There was also a cotton gin (a machine that separates cotton fibers) and a gristmill (which grinds grain into flour). A company that worked with stone and sand was also there. About 60 people lived in Chita that year.
In the mid-1930s, the community grew a bit, with about 75 residents and two businesses. The number of people living in Chita went down in the 1950s and 1960s. However, it started to grow again because it is close to Lake Livingston, a popular spot. The population stayed at 75 people in 1990. By 2000, Chita had 81 residents.
