The Chiwawa River is a river in the state of Washington, in the United States. It flows into the Wenatchee River. This means the Chiwawa River is a "tributary" of the Wenatchee River. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one.
The Chiwawa River is entirely within Chelan County. A large part of the area where the river collects its water is a national forest and wilderness. This means much of the land around the river is protected. The upper part of the Chiwawa River is very clean and natural.
The river is part of the larger Columbia River system. The Chiwawa River flows into the Wenatchee River. Then, the Wenatchee River flows into the Columbia River.
The name "Chiwawa" comes from a language called Columbia-Moses. In this language, "wawa" means "creek." Many places along the Chiwawa River were named by a person named Albert H. Sylvester.
