Chocolate-coated peanuts are a yummy snack. They are made by covering peanuts with a layer of chocolate. You often see them sold at places like movie theaters. They are also popular in snack machines.
One very famous brand of these treats is called Goobers. Nestlé makes Goobers. You can find them in many grocery stores and movie theaters worldwide. Lots of other companies make chocolate-covered peanuts too.
Some chocolate-coated peanuts are made for vegans. This means they do not contain any animal products. These special peanuts use ingredients like sugar, cocoa mass (which is pure chocolate), cocoa butter, and vanillin.
A candy similar to chocolate-covered peanuts is the chocolate-coated raisin. These are also often sold at snack counters.
History of Goobers
The popular Goobers candy first appeared in the United States in 1925. They were created by the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. Later, in 1969, Ward Foods bought Blumenthal.
Then, in 1981, a company called Terson Company bought Ward Foods. Finally, on January 9, 1984, Nestlé bought the Goobers brand from Terson Company. Nestlé has owned Goobers ever since.
What "Goober" Means
The name "Goobers" is a special brand name. But the word "goober" itself is an old American word for a peanut. It likely comes from the Gullah language, where "guber" means peanut. The Gullah word might have come from the KiKongo word n'guba.
