Choe Yong-rim (Chosŏn'gŭl: 최영림, born on November 20, 1930) is a North Korean politician. He served as the Premier of North Korea from June 2010 to April 2013. The Premier is like a prime minister, leading the government.
Choe Yong-rim was also a member of the 6th Presidium of the Workers' Party of Korea. This was an important group within North Korea's main political party. He is currently an honorary vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, which is the country's parliament.

Choe Yong-rim's Early Life and Education
Choe Yong-rim joined the Korean People's Army in July 1950. He went to several important schools and universities. These included Mangyongdae Revolutionary School and Kim Il-sung University in North Korea. He also studied at Moscow University in Russia.
He became an electrical engineer after his studies.
Choe Yong-rim's Political Career
Choe Yong-rim held many different jobs in the North Korean government. He worked in various roles since the 1950s.
- He was an instructor and section chief.
- He also served as a director in the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
- He held positions like vice-premier of the Administration Council.
- He was the director of the Central Public Prosecutors Office.
- He also worked as the secretary general of the SPA Presidium.
From April 2005 to July 2009, Choe was the secretary general of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly. He then became the chief secretary of the Pyongyang City Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in 2009.
Becoming Premier of North Korea
Choe Yong-rim was chosen as the Premier of North Korea on June 7, 2010. This happened at a meeting of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly. He took over this role from Kim Yong-il.
In September 2010, Choe was elected as a member of the 5-person 6th Presidium. This was a very high-ranking group within the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Choe Yong-rim's adoptive daughter, Choe Son-hui, is the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Time as Premier
Choe Yong-rim became Premier in 2010. This change happened during a parliamentary session.
In February 2011, North Korean media reported on Choe's visit to a construction site. This was notable because it was one of the first times a leader other than the Supreme Leader was reported doing a solo inspection.
On April 1, 2013, Choe Yong-rim was replaced as Premier of North Korea by Pak Pong-ju. This change happened as the assembly focused on new plans for the economy and military. Choe was then given the title of honorary vice-president of the SPA Presidium.
