Chris Baker's NFL Career
Chris Baker was picked by the New York Jets in the 2002 NFL Draft. He was the 88th player chosen overall.
Playing for the New York Jets
In the 2005 season, Chris Baker became the starting tight end. However, he got injured and was placed on the injured reserve list. He had a great season in 2006. He achieved his best numbers for receiving yards, catches, and touchdowns. The Jets finished that season with a 10-6 record. They earned a spot in the playoffs.
After a strong year in 2007, Chris felt the Jets did not keep a promise about a new contract. The Jets then drafted another tight end, Dustin Keller, in 2008. They also signed Bubba Franks. This meant Chris was third on the team's tight end list. He was also the lowest paid tight end on the team. The Jets eventually gave him a new contract. It was for three years and $12.2 million. But the contract had a special rule. If the Jets cut him before March 5, 2009, they would not owe him any money. On February 20, 2009, the Jets released Chris Baker.
Time with the New England Patriots
On February 27, 2009, Chris Baker signed a five-year contract. He joined the New England Patriots. On September 27, 2009, he caught a special pass. It was Tom Brady's 200th career touchdown pass. This happened during a game against the Falcons. Chris played in all 16 games during the 2009 season. On March 4, 2010, the Patriots released him.
Joining the Seattle Seahawks
On March 13, 2010, Chris Baker signed with the Seattle Seahawks. His main job was to help block for his teammates. He played in all 16 games during the 2010 season. He caught nine passes for 116 yards and one touchdown. On January 4, 2011, he was placed on injured reserve. This was due to a fractured bone in his hip. This happened just before Seattle's playoff game. On February 24, 2011, the Seahawks released Chris Baker.
