Daniel Lamont "Bubba" Franks is a former American football player. He was born on January 6, 1978. Bubba played as a tight end for nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL). A tight end is a player who can block like a lineman and catch passes like a receiver.

He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes. In 1999, he was named an All-American. This means he was one of the best college players in the country. The Green Bay Packers chose him in the first round of the 2000 NFL draft. He was the 14th player picked overall.

Bubba's Early Life

Bubba Franks grew up in Big Spring, Texas. He went to Big Spring High School. While there, he was known as an "all-state" tight end. This means he was one of the best players in the entire state.

College Football Career

Bubba played college football at the University of Miami. He was famous for making amazing one-handed catches. In 1996, he "redshirted," which means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain an extra year of eligibility.

From 1997 to 1999, Bubba was a very strong player. He set a new record for the University of Miami. He scored 12 touchdowns as a tight end. He was also chosen for the All-Big East team twice. In 1999, he was named an All-American.

Bubba Franks had a good first year as a rookie with the Packers. In his second NFL season, 2001, he really shined. He caught nine touchdown passes that year. He was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl three times. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL. He went in 2001, 2002, and 2003.

In 2005, Bubba missed many games because of injuries to his knee and neck. On February 20, 2008, the Packers decided to release him. This happened after a tough 2007 season where he was injured and played less. Another player, Donald Lee, became the main tight end.

Playing for the New York Jets

On March 16, 2008, Bubba Franks signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. He played for them for one season. On July 13, 2009, the Jets released him. After this, Bubba Franks retired from professional football.
