Chris Bauer is an American actor. He is well known for his work on television. You might have seen him in popular shows like The Wire, Third Watch, and True Blood. He also appeared in Survivor's Remorse, The Deuce, and the Apple TV+ science fiction series For All Mankind. Besides TV and movies, Chris Bauer has performed on Broadway. He played Mitch in the famous play A Streetcar Named Desire. He also created roles in plays by important writers like David Mamet.

Early Life and School
Chris Bauer was born in Los Angeles, California. His family comes from Germany and Ireland. He went to Miramonte High School in Orinda, California. In 1984, during his last year, he played on the school's football team. That year, his team won the state championship! After high school, he studied at the University of San Diego. He also attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Later, he graduated from the Yale School of Drama.

Television Roles
Chris Bauer has been in many TV series. In The Wire, he played Frank Sobotka, a port-union boss. He first tried out for a different role, but got this important part instead. He also had a regular role as Fred Yokas in the NBC series Third Watch. Fred was the husband of Officer Faith Yokas.
He played an FBI agent named Dodd in the CBS series Smith. On ABC's Life on Mars, he played a priest. He was also Detective Lou Destefano in the miniseries The Lost Room on the Sci-Fi channel. In 2004, he was Lee Nickel in the ESPN series Tilt.
One of his most famous roles was Det. (later Sheriff) Andy Bellefleur in the TV series True Blood. He was a main character for 81 episodes. He also appeared in an episode of Fringe as Brian Dempsey. You might have seen him in Numb3rs as Dr. Raymond "Ray" Galuski. He was also in an episode of Criminal Minds.
In 2012, Chris Bauer played a rival salesman, Harry Jannerone, in an episode of The Office (US version). In 2014, he was a guest star in an episode of NBC's Parks and Recreation.
From 2014 to 2017, Bauer had a recurring role in the Starz comedy Survivor's Remorse. He played Jimmy Flaherty, who owned a fictional basketball team. This show was created by Mike O'Malley and also had NBA star LeBron James as an executive producer.
He played Detective Tom Lange in the FX series American Crime Story. He was also Tim Rutten in the NBC mini-series Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers. From 2017 to 2019, he co-starred as Bobby Dwyer in the HBO series The Deuce. In 2018, he was a guest star as Dennis Cole in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
In 2019, Chris Bauer played NASA astronaut Deke Slayton in the first season of the Apple TV+ science fiction series For All Mankind. More recently, he has been in Heels as Wild Bill Hancock and Fellow Travelers as McCarthy.
Movie Roles
Chris Bauer's first movie was Snow White: A Tale of Terror in 1997. He acted alongside Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill. He played Ivan Dubov in the action film Face/Off, where he met Nicolas Cage. He also appeared with Cage again in the 1999 film 8mm, playing a character called 'Machine'.
In 2005, he had a small role in the Jim Jarmusch film, Broken Flowers. He was also in The Conspirator, a movie about Abraham Lincoln's assassination. He played a minor role in Flags of Our Fathers.
