Chris Ferrie's Education and Early Career
Chris Ferrie studied at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. There, he earned several degrees in math and physics. He focused on how probability works in quantum physics.
From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a researcher at the Center for Quantum Information and Control at the University of New Mexico. Later, from 2015 to 2017, he continued his research at the Centre for Engineer Quantum Systems at the University of Technology Sydney. Since 2017, he has been a senior lecturer there, teaching and sharing his knowledge.
Making Science Fun for Kids
Chris Ferrie is the creator of Baby University. This is a series of board books and picture books. These books introduce big science ideas to very young children. One of his most famous books is Quantum Physics for Babies. It has even been recognized by other scientists.
Videos and Shows
In 2017, Chris Ferrie helped create an online video series called "Physics For Babies." This series had 52 episodes. In the videos, Dr. Chris and an animated koala named Mengmeng teach basic physics. They cover topics like quantum physics, optics (how light works), and electromagnetism (how electricity and magnets are related). They use stories, lessons, and games to make learning fun. The series was shown in China from May 2017 to May 2018.
Red Kangaroo Book Series
From 2018 to 2019, Ferrie worked on another big book series. It was called "Red Kangaroo Thousands Physics Whys." This series has 50 books! It explains everyday science in simple ways. Dr. Chris and a cute Red Kangaroo character have lively conversations. The books cover five main themes:
- Everyday physics
- Quantum physics
- Newtonian physics (how things move)
- Optical physics (light)
- Aerodynamics (how things fly)
These books became very popular in kindergartens in China. An American publisher, Sourcebooks, also bought the rights to publish them in English.
Sci-gasm Podcast
In April 2020, Chris Ferrie announced he was joining an Australian science podcast. The podcast is called Sci-gasm.
Family Life
Chris Ferrie is married and has four children.
