Christopher Lars Nelson (born September 3, 1985) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as an infielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Chris played for the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and San Diego Padres.

Chris Nelson's Early Life and High School Baseball
Chris Nelson played baseball at Redan High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was a top pitcher during his high school years. After a surgery, he focused more on hitting. In his final year, he had a great average of .552. He planned to play college baseball at Georgia.
Chris Nelson's Professional Baseball Career
Playing for the Colorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies picked Chris Nelson in the first round of the 2004 draft. He was the ninth player chosen overall. He received one of the biggest signing bonuses in Rockies history. In 2007, he was named the Rockies' Farm Player of the Month.
Chris joined the main Rockies team on June 18, 2010. He filled in for an injured teammate. He was expected to play second base.
On September 9, 2010, Nelson did something amazing. He stole home plate against the Cincinnati Reds. This play helped the Rockies win the game. It was his first time stealing home in his entire career! He played for the Rockies until April 2013.
Playing for the New York Yankees
In May 2013, Chris Nelson was traded to the New York Yankees. He played a few games for them. However, he was soon moved off the main team.
Playing for the Los Angeles Angels
On May 18, 2013, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim picked up Chris Nelson. He later joined their Triple-A team, the Salt Lake Bees. On August 15, he hit his first career grand slam. This means he hit a home run with all three bases loaded. After the season, he became a free agent.
Playing for the San Diego Padres
Chris Nelson signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres in June 2014. He was called up to the Padres' main team on July 18, 2014. He had a good debut game, getting two hits and two RBIs. He finished his MLB career with the Padres in 2014.

After his time in MLB, Chris Nelson continued to play baseball. He signed minor league deals with several other teams. These included the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, and Washington Nationals.
In 2016, he returned to the Colorado Rockies organization. He played for their Triple-A team, the Albuquerque Isotopes. In 2017, he played for the Sugar Land Skeeters in an independent league. He also signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals.
Chris Nelson's Coaching Career
After his playing career, Chris Nelson became a coach. In 2018, he was named the Bench Coach for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. This team is a minor league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. He became an assistant hitting coach for the team in 2024.
