It was called Could It Happen Here? and was filmed at his school, North Sydney Boys High School. The film even won an award at the Sydney Film Festival and was shown on Australian TV.
After finishing school in 1970, Noonan started working at the Commonwealth Film Unit (now known as Film Australia). He learned many different parts of filmmaking, working on short films and documentaries. In 1973, he was one of the first students in the directing course at the famous Australian Film Television and Radio School, along with other future directors like Gillian Armstrong and Phillip Noyce.
Building a Career in Film and TV
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Noonan directed many documentaries and television shows. In 1980, he made a documentary called Stepping Out, which was about a group of actors with disabilities. The film won several awards for its powerful story.

Breakthrough Success with Babe
Noonan's biggest international success came in 1995 when he directed his first major movie, Babe. He also co-wrote the script with George Miller. The movie, about a pig who wants to be a sheepdog, was a surprise hit all over the world.
