Chris Noonan (born 14 November 1952) is an Australian filmmaker and actor. He is best known for directing the popular family movie Babe (1995). For Babe, he was nominated for two major awards: Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

Chris Noonan's Early Life and Career
Chris Noonan was born in Sydney, Australia. His father encouraged him to make films from a young age. When Chris was just 16, he made his first short film called Could It Happen Here?. This film won a prize at the Sydney Film Festival and was even shown on Australian television!
After finishing school in 1970, Noonan started working for the Commonwealth Film Unit. This place is now called Film Australia. He learned a lot there, working as a production assistant, editor, and assistant director. He helped make many short films and documentaries.
In 1973, Chris Noonan was one of the first students to join the directors' course at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. After that, he went back to Film Australia. He worked on several films and documentaries, including the movie The Cars That Ate Paris. In 1976, he directed a documentary series about India called "Our Asian Neighbours: India."
Starting His Own Company and Award-Winning Films
In 1979, Chris Noonan started his own film company. In 1980, he made a documentary called Stepping Out. This film showed the lives of a group of actors with disabilities. It won the UNESCO prize and an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Documentary.
He also helped write and direct parts of Australian mini-series. These included The Cowra Breakout and Vietnam. He also directed his first TV movie, The Riddle of the Stinson.
Chris Noonan also helped lead film organizations. He was the President of the Australian Screen Directors' Association for two years. Later, he was the Chairman of the Australian Film Commission for three years.
Directing Babe and Other Famous Works
In 1995, Chris Noonan wrote the screenplay for and directed his first big movie for cinemas, Babe. He wrote the script with George Miller. Babe was a huge success around the world! It earned a lot of money and was released in 18 different languages.
Babe was nominated for seven Academy Awards, which are very important film awards. Chris Noonan himself was nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film also received many other honors, including nominations for BAFTA Awards.
In 2006, he directed another well-known film, Miss Potter. This movie was based on the real life of Beatrix Potter, a famous children's author. Chris Noonan has also worked on other film ideas, including Zebras, a drama set in South Africa, and The Third Witch, a new version of William Shakespeare's play Macbeth.
