Chris Robshaw (born June 4, 1986) is a famous English former rugby union player. He was a very important player for the England national rugby union team, even serving as their captain from January 2012 to December 2015. Chris played in the back row of the scrum, usually as a flanker. This position requires a lot of strength and skill.

Chris Robshaw's Early Life

Chris Robshaw was born on June 4, 1986, in Redhill, Surrey. He was the second of three boys. When Chris was five years old, his father passed away. His mother, Patricia, raised him and his brothers.

Chris started playing rugby at a young age, joining Warlingham RFC when he was just seven years old. He went to Cumnor House School, then Millfield Preparatory School, and finally Millfield public school. At Millfield, he was the captain of the first team, showing his leadership skills early on.

In his personal life, Chris married his girlfriend, Camilla Kerslake, in France on June 29, 2018. They welcomed their first child together in May 2021.

Playing for Clubs

Chris Robshaw played for two main clubs during his professional rugby career: Harlequins in England and San Diego Legion in the United States.

Harlequins

Chris made his debut in the Premiership (England's top rugby league) in the 2007–2008 season. He quickly showed his talent and was chosen for the England Saxons squad, which won the Churchill Cup in 2008.

He became a very important player for Harlequins. From the 2014–15 season, he was the club's vice-captain. Chris won the Aviva Premiership Player of the Year award twice. He first won it after the 2008–09 season and again after Harlequins won the league title in 2011–12. He even scored a try in the 2011–12 Premiership final, helping Harlequins beat Leicester Tigers.

Chris stayed with Harlequins until the end of the 2019–20 season, playing many games for the team.

San Diego Legion

After his time with Harlequins, Chris moved to the United States. He joined San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He played 18 games for the team.

Chris Robshaw announced his retirement from professional rugby on October 21, 2022, after a long and successful career.

Playing for England

Chris Robshaw had a remarkable international career playing for the England national rugby union team. He earned 66 "caps," which means he played in 66 international matches for his country.

Becoming England Captain

Chris played for England's Under 18 and Under 21 teams before making his senior debut. In 2009, he played his first "Test match" (a top international game) for England against Argentina.

In January 2012, even though he had only played one Test match before, Chris was chosen to be the captain of the England team for the 2012 Six Nations. He led England throughout the tournament, winning many games, including important away matches in Scotland, Italy, and France. He continued to captain England in other matches, including a big win against New Zealand at the end of 2012.

Key Moments with England

Chris scored his first international try for England in a win against Australia in November 2013. His second try came against Italy in 2014.

He remained England's captain for the 2015 Six Nations Championship. He was praised for his leadership, especially in a tough away game against Wales where he made many tackles. England finished second in the championship that year.

After the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Chris lost the captaincy to Dylan Hartley in January 2016. However, he still kept his place in the team and continued to play a key role. In 2016, England won the Grand Slam (winning all their Six Nations games). They also toured Australia and won all three matches against the Wallabies. Chris played his 50th Test match during this tour and was named Man of the Match.

Chris continued to be an important player for England under coach Eddie Jones. He captained England for the final time in 2017 in a win against Samoa. His last Test match for England was in 2018 against South Africa.

Later Years and Retirement

Due to injuries and new talented players joining the team, Chris was not selected for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He finished his international career having started all 66 of his matches for England, which is a rare achievement. He is also second only to Will Carling for the most appearances as England captain in the professional era of rugby.

In October 2020, Chris was supposed to play for the Barbarians team against England. However, the match was cancelled because some players, including Chris, did not follow important rules.
