Chris Taliaferro's Role as Alderman
Becoming an Alderman
Chris Taliaferro was first elected as an alderman in 2015. He won against the person who held the position before him, Deborah L. Graham. This means he took over her role. He was then reelected by the voters in 2019, showing that people in his ward wanted him to continue his work.
Working in the City Council
As an alderman, Chris Taliaferro is part of several important groups, called committees, within the Chicago City Council. These committees focus on different topics that affect the city and its residents. For example, he has been involved in committees that deal with human relations, rules, public safety, and transportation.
He is also a member of special groups within the City Council. These include the Progressive Reform Caucus, which works on making changes to improve the city. He is also part of the Veterans Caucus, which supports people who have served in the military. Additionally, he is a member of the Black Caucus, which focuses on issues important to the Black community in Chicago.
Supporting City Leaders
In 2019, when Chicago was choosing a new mayor, Chris Taliaferro supported Toni Preckwinkle. Later, during Lori Lightfoot's time as mayor, Alderman Taliaferro was seen as an ally. This means he often worked with and supported the mayor's plans for the city.
Seeking a Judgeship
In June 2022, Chris Taliaferro ran in an election to become a judge in Cook County. However, he did not win this election.
