Chris Walley was born in Wales in 1954. He is a geologist, which means he studies the Earth's rocks and history. He is also an author and a university teacher.
Life and Career
Chris Walley was born in Wales in 1954, but he grew up in northern England. He studied geology at Sheffield University. He then earned a higher degree, called a PhD, from Swansea University.
From 1980 to 1984, he taught at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. While there, he met his wife. His two sons, John and Mark, were also born in Lebanon.
From 1984 to 1994, Chris lived in Swansea. He worked as a consultant for the oil industry. This meant he gave expert advice about finding oil. He traveled to many countries in Africa and Asia for his work. He also wrote many detailed reports about the geology of different places.
In the late 1980s, he started writing novels in his spare time. He published two books, Heart of Stone and Rock of Refuge, using the pen name John Haworth.
In 1994, Chris returned to Lebanon. He helped rebuild the Geology Department at AUB. He lived there with his family until 1998. During this time, he taught and did research. He also helped start a large environmental project in the Bekaa region with A Rocha Lebanon.
In 1998, he moved back to the United Kingdom. He began a new career in writing and editing, especially for Christian readers. He still kept his interest in geology. He even led field trips for Wheaton College (Illinois) students.
In 2004, Chris started teaching again. He taught geology and geography at Gorseinon College, which is now Gower College Swansea. He taught full-time and continued writing in his free time.
In 2014, Chris retired early from teaching. He took a volunteer job with A Rocha International. He became the Mediterranean Conservation Science Coordinator. To do this job better, he and his wife moved to the south of France. They are based between two A Rocha France centers. These centers are in Courmettes and near Arles. He has a special connection with the Domaine des Courmettes.

Chris Walley has written several books.
As John Haworth, he wrote two thrillers: Heart of Stone and Rock of Refuge. These books were published in the United States. They have also been translated into Swedish and German. You can now find them as Kindle ebooks under his own name.
Under his own name, he wrote The Lamb Among the Stars series. The first two books, The Shadow at Evening and The Power of the Night, were later combined into one book called The Shadow and Night. The next book in the series was The Dark Foundations. The last book, The Infinite Day, was published in 2008.
Chris has also helped write non-fiction books. One example is The Life: A Portrait of Jesus (2003), which he wrote with J. John.
