Christopher Wyatt Woods, born on July 19, 1962, is a former American football player. He was a professional wide receiver. Woods played for three seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was with the Los Angeles Raiders and the Denver Broncos. Before that, he played college football at Auburn University. Woods also played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Edmonton Eskimos and Toronto Argonauts.

Early Life and College Football
Christopher Wyatt Woods was born on July 19, 1962. His hometown is Birmingham, Alabama. He went to A. H. Parker High School in Birmingham.
Woods was a key player for the Auburn Tigers team. He played for Auburn University from 1980 to 1983. In 1980, as a freshman, he caught three passes for 26 yards. The next year, in 1981, he had 13 catches for 213 yards and one touchdown. He also ran with the ball seven times for 72 yards. Plus, he returned 11 punts for 60 yards.
In 1982, Woods caught 21 passes for 406 yards. He scored two touchdowns that season. His final college year was 1983. He made 15 catches for 227 yards and two more touchdowns.
Professional Football Career
Playing in the CFL
Woods started his professional career in Canada. He signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) on March 5, 1984. In June 1984, the Los Angeles Raiders picked him in the NFL supplemental draft. He was the 28th overall pick.
During the 1984 CFL season, Woods had a great year. He caught 38 passes for 837 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the ball three times for 60 yards. Woods was good at returning kicks too. He returned 18 kickoffs for 442 yards. He also returned 31 punts for 303 yards and one touchdown. In 1985, he played in 13 games. He caught 41 passes for 779 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned ten kickoffs for 239 yards and 36 punts for 366 yards.
In May 1986, Woods was traded to the Toronto Argonauts. He played in 17 games for them in 1986. He had 61 catches for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned eight kickoffs for 152 yards. Plus, he returned 64 punts for 595 yards. After the 1986 season, he became a free agent.
Playing in the NFL
Woods signed with the Los Angeles Raiders on April 17, 1987. He was placed on injured reserve in September but returned in October. He played in nine games for the Raiders in 1987. He had one catch for 14 yards. He also returned 26 punts for 189 yards and three kicks for 55 yards. In 1988, he played in two games. He returned one kick for 20 yards. He was then placed on injured reserve again. He became a free agent after the 1988 season.
The Cleveland Browns signed Woods on March 28, 1989. However, they released him later that year on August 29, 1989.
Woods then signed with the Denver Broncos on November 8, 1989. He played in one game for the Broncos. He returned one kick for 17 yards and two punts for six yards. He was released by the Broncos on November 14, 1989.
Life After Football
After his football career, Chris Woods became involved in his community. He ran for mayor of his hometown, Birmingham, Alabama, in 1995.
He ran for mayor again in the 2017 election. He finished third in the voting, getting 18% of the votes. Randall Woodfin won that election. Woods also ran for mayor in the 2021 election. He finished fourth in that race.
Woods is also a business leader. He is the President and CEO of a company called C.W. Woods Contracting. His uncle, Abraham Woods, was a well-known civil rights activist.
