Christ Church, Sandown is an important parish church in the town of Sandown, located on the Isle of Wight. It is part of the Church of England. This church is a central place for worship and community activities in the area.

A Look Back in Time
Building the Church
Christ Church was built a long time ago, in 1845. An architect named Woodman designed this beautiful building. It was the very first Church of England building in Sandown. Because of this, it is considered the main church for the town.
Royal Connections and Memorials
There is a special part of the church called the 'Princess Royal Chapel'. This chapel is named after Princess Victoria. She was the oldest daughter of Queen Victoria. Princess Victoria gave a beautiful window to this chapel.
The church also has a graveyard. Here, you can find the grave of Rev. William Darwin Fox. He was a naturalist and a clergyman. He was also a second cousin to the famous scientist Charles Darwin. Many members of his large family are buried there too.
The graveyard also holds a memorial for a ship called HMS Eurydice. This ship was sadly wrecked a long time ago. You can also find war graves for soldiers from World War I and World War II. These graves remember people who served their countries. There is also one grave for a sailor from the French Navy from World War I.
