Christabel Dennison (1884-1924) was a talented British artist. She was known for creating beautiful paintings and sculptures.

Life and Art of Christabel Dennison

Christabel Dennison was born in Watford, England, in 1884. She loved art from a young age. She went to Hubert von Herkomer's art school in Bushey, Hertfordshire, to learn more about painting and sculpting. This was a well-known art school at the time.

In 1905, Christabel traveled to Paris, France, which was a very important city for artists. Soon after, she began showing her artworks in London. From 1910, she also exhibited her pieces with the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, a group of artists who shared their work.

Becoming a Recognized Artist

Christabel was very active in a new art group called the Allied Artists Association. In 1910, she even helped decide which artworks would be shown in their exhibitions. She worked on the "hanging committee" alongside other famous artists like Jacob Epstein and Charles Ginner. This shows how respected she was in the art world.

One of her sculptures, called Wind, was shown at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1915. Many people liked it, and it received good reviews.

Challenges and Legacy

During World War I, Christabel Dennison took a break from art to serve as a nurse. After the war, she faced some financial difficulties. However, she continued to paint and sometimes modeled for other artists.

Sadly, Christabel passed away early in 1924. She got measles, which was followed by pneumonia. After her death, a special exhibition of her artworks was held in 1928 at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London. A catalog for the exhibition was written by her friend, the artist Charles Ginner. This exhibition helped people remember her artistic talent.
