Early Life and Start in Football
Christiane Endler was born in Santiago, Chile. Her father is German and her mother is Chilean. As a child, she was great at many sports, including tennis, swimming, and basketball. But she loved football the most.
She joined her first football club when she was 10 years old. At first, she played as a forward, the position that scores goals. When she was 15, a coach saw how tall she was and suggested she try being a goalkeeper. The change was a success! At 17, she began playing for the women's team of Unión La Calera.
College Career in the United States
In 2011, Endler moved to the United States to play for the University of South Florida Bulls. She received a scholarship to study and play soccer. This was where she learned to speak English.
She was a star player for the Bulls. In 2012, she played in all 19 games and had 83 saves. She also had nine shutouts, which means she did not let the other team score any goals in those games. She was named the Big East goalkeeper of the week twice. In 2014, she helped her team win their conference championship.
Club Career Journey
Endler has played for some of the biggest football clubs in the world.
Beginnings in South America
In 2010, Endler and her team Everton reached the final of the Copa Libertadores Femenina. This is the biggest club tournament in South America. They lost 1-0 to the famous Brazilian team Santos, but it was a huge achievement for a Chilean team.
The next year, she joined Colo-Colo, another top team in Chile. In 2012, she helped them win the Copa Libertadores. The final match went to a penalty shootout. Endler saved the final penalty kick to win the championship for her team. This victory was a big moment for women's football in Chile.
Moving to Europe
In 2014, Endler was signed by Chelsea in England. Her time there was short because she got a knee injury. She returned to Chile to recover and play for Colo-Colo again.
In 2016, she moved to Spain to play for Valencia. She had an amazing season. She won the Zamora Trophy for being the goalkeeper who let in the fewest goals in the league. She was the first foreign player to win this award in the Spanish women's league.
Fame with Paris Saint-Germain

Her great performance in Valencia got the attention of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), one of the best teams in France. She joined them in 2017.
With PSG, she won the French Cup in 2018. In the 2020-21 season, she helped PSG win the French league title for the first time ever. They beat their rivals Lyon, who had won the league for 14 years in a row. That season, Endler only let in 4 goals in 22 matches.

Even though the team didn't get past the group stage, Endler played so well that she was named to the Team of the Tournament. She said this tournament made her realize she could have a professional career in football.
Senior Team and Fighting for Change
For many years, the women's national team in Chile did not get much support. There were long periods with no games scheduled. Because of this, the team was even removed from the FIFA world rankings.
Endler and some of her teammates decided to do something about it. In 2016, they created a players' union called ANJUFF. A union is an organization that helps protect the rights of workers. ANJUFF fought for better conditions for female players in Chile.
First World Cup and Olympics

Thanks to the work of ANJUFF, things started to get better. In 2018, Chile hosted the 2018 Copa América Femenina. As captain, Endler led her team to a second-place finish. This qualified them for the FIFA Women's World Cup for the very first time.
At the World Cup, Endler was the team's captain. In a match against the powerful United States team, she made many incredible saves. Even though Chile lost, Endler was named the Player of the Match. Her performance was praised all over the world.
In 2021, she captained Chile at the Tokyo Olympics, which was another first for the country. In 2023, she helped Chile win a silver medal at the Pan American Games. After the tournament, she announced her retirement from the national team.
