The Chile women's national football team plays for Chile in international women's football games. This team is managed by the Federación de Fútbol de Chile and is part of CONMEBOL, which is the football group for South America.
Chile almost made it to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991, 1995, and 2011. They finally played in the World Cup for the first time in 2019. Chile is one of only two teams, along with Brazil, that has always qualified for the Copa América Femenina. They often play friendly matches against their traditional rival, Argentina. The team is currently coached by Luis Mena and its captain is Daniela Zamora.
In many South American countries, women's football is not as popular as men's football. However, when Chile qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, it became the fifth country in CONMEBOL to have both its men's and women's teams reach major FIFA tournaments. Chile is also one of only three Spanish-speaking countries to have won a game in the Women's World Cup. The Chile women's national football team also qualified for its first Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.

History of La Roja Femenina
Chile was one of the first teams to play in the Copa América Femenina. This was in the very first tournament in 1991. They played against Brazil and Venezuela. Chile lost 1–6 to Brazil but won 1–0 against Venezuela. This meant they did not qualify for the 1991 FIFA Women's World Cup.
After this, Chile's team had a tough time for a while. They only managed to get third place in 1995 and 2010.
Return to the Field
After not qualifying for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, the team stopped playing for three years. But in May 2017, they came back with a friendly game against Peru. Chile won that game by a huge score of 12–0! This win helped bring the team back to life.
Chile then hosted the 2018 Copa América Femenina. They played very well and finished in second place. Many fans came to watch their games, filling the stadiums. This second-place finish meant Chile earned a spot in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. It was the first time in history that Chile's women's team qualified for the World Cup. This made Chilean fans very happy, especially after the men's team did not qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
World Cup Debut and Olympic Games
In the 2019 Women's World Cup, Chile was placed in a very tough group. They were with strong teams like the world champions United States and Sweden, plus Thailand. Even though the group was hard, Chile played bravely. They lost 0–2 to Sweden and 0–3 to the United States. They didn't score any goals in these matches.
However, in their last game against Thailand, Chile made history. They won 2–0! Sadly, a missed penalty kick by Francisca Lara late in the game meant Chile was out of the World Cup. They were eliminated because another team, Nigeria, had a better goal difference.
After the World Cup, Chile played in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. They got there by beating Cameroon in a special play-off game. At the Olympics, they faced more strong teams: Great Britain, Canada, and the host country Japan. Chile did not win or draw any games, but they fought hard. Their losses were not as big as some expected.
