Christina Ricci (born February 12, 1980) is an American actress. She is known for playing unique and sometimes mysterious characters. Christina often works in smaller, independent movies, but she has also appeared in many big movies that lots of people watched. She has been nominated for important awards like the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Primetime Emmy Award.
Christina started acting in movies when she was nine years old. Her first film was Mermaids (1990). She became very famous for her role as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991). Later, her roles in Casper and Now and Then (both from 1995) made her a popular young star. When she was 17, she began taking on more grown-up roles in independent films like The Ice Storm (1997) and Monster (2003).
On television, Christina played Liza Bump in the final season of Ally McBeal (2002). She also had a guest role on Grey's Anatomy in 2006, which earned her an Emmy Award nomination. She starred in the show Pan Am (2011–2012) and later produced and starred in The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (2015) and Z: The Beginning of Everything (2017). In 2022, she appeared as Marilyn Thornhill in Netflix's Wednesday. Since 2021, Christina has played Misty Quigley on Yellowjackets, receiving nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award. Early Life and Education
Christina Ricci was born in Santa Monica, California, on February 12, 1980. She is the youngest of four children. Her mother was a model in the 1960s and later became a real estate agent. Her father had many different jobs, like a gym teacher and a lawyer. Christina has said that she has Italian, Irish, and Scottish family roots.
Christina's family moved to Montclair, New Jersey, where she grew up. She went to several schools there, including Edgemont Elementary School and Montclair High School. She later attended the Professional Children's School in New York City. Her parents separated when she was young.
Acting Career Highlights
Becoming a Child Star (1990–1996)
Christina was discovered at age eight after starring in a school play. Soon after, she appeared in some funny commercials on Saturday Night Live. This helped her get her acting union card.
Her first movie was Mermaids (1990), where she played Kate Flax. She also appeared in the music video for "The Shoop Shoop Song" from the film's soundtrack. The next year, she played the dark and clever Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family. She played Wednesday again in the 1993 movie Addams Family Values. Both films were very successful and made a lot of money. Critics really liked her acting, saying she played Wednesday with a lot of depth for her age.
Christina got her first main role in Casper, a comedy about a friendly ghost, in 1995. This movie was one of the highest-grossing films of that year. In the same year, she also starred in the adventure movie Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. In 1997, Christina starred in the Disney movie That Darn Cat. Later that year, she appeared in The Ice Storm, a drama about family problems. Critics praised her performance, saying she showed the defiance and confusion of growing up very well.
Christina had a small part in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). That same year, she had main roles in three other movies. In Buffalo '66, her acting was called "astonishing." She also starred in Pecker, a comedy by director John Waters.

More Film, TV, and Theatre (2005–Present)
In 2005, Christina provided vocals for a song by the artist Beck. She also starred in the horror film Cursed. The next year, she played a paramedic in two episodes of Grey's Anatomy, earning an Emmy nomination. She then played the main character in Penelope (2006), a romantic comedy where she wore a special prosthetic nose. Critics found the film charming and Christina's performance impressive.
Christina's role as Rae Doole in the 2006 drama Black Snake Moan was highly praised. She also appeared in Home of the Brave, a drama about soldiers returning from Iraq.
In 2008, Christina co-starred as Trixie in Speed Racer, a big-budget movie based on a Japanese cartoon. The film received mixed reviews at first but has since been seen as a "masterpiece" by some. She also appeared in a segment of the movie New York, I Love You.

Relationships and Family
In 2008, Christina started dating actor Owen Benjamin. They got engaged in 2009 but ended their engagement a few months later.
In 2013, Christina announced her engagement to dolly grip James Heerdegen, whom she met while working on the series Pan Am. They got married in October 2013 and had a son in August 2014. They divorced in 2020.
In October 2021, Christina announced she had married hairstylist Mark Hampton. Their daughter was born in December 2021.
