Christina Schwab (born July 31, 1980) is an amazing American athlete. She used to be a Paralympic wheelchair basketball player and a long-distance racer. Now, she is the head coach for the United States women's national wheelchair basketball team.
Becoming a Paralympic Star
Christina Schwab started competing in the Paralympic Games in 2000. She placed 5th in her first Paralympics. Four years later, she won a gold medal in Athens, Greece. This was for wheelchair basketball. In 2008, she won her second gold medal in Beijing, China. She also won another gold at the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Gold Cup.
Christina was very successful in national championships. She won first place from 2002 to 2004. In 2006, she earned a silver medal at the IWBF Gold Cup. She also won a bronze medal at the IPC World Championships for racing. Christina even won the Boston Marathon in 2003. Five years later, she won the North American Cup.
Leading the Team
On December 13, 2021, Christina Schwab took on a new role. She became the head coach of the United States women's national wheelchair basketball team. This means she now guides other talented athletes.
Life Off the Court
In December 2005, Christina graduated from the University of Illinois. She earned a degree in community health. After college, she moved to Colorado. There, she helped start a women's wheelchair basketball team called the Denver Rolling Nuggets. This helped more women play the sport.
In 2011, Christina married CJ Schwab. They live in Edgerton, Wisconsin. Christina is still very involved in sports. She is working on her master's degree. She also coaches the women's wheelchair basketball team at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
