Diering returned to baseball in 1946. He joined the St. Louis Cardinals team at the start of the 1947 season. He worked hard to earn a regular spot on the team.
In 1949, he became the Cardinals' main center fielder. That year, he had his best batting average of .263 in 131 games played. He kept this starting role for 1949 and part of 1950. After that, he mostly played as a backup player.
Moving to the New York Giants

In 1952, he didn't play much for the Giants. He only hit for a .174 batting average. He spent most of that year and all of 1953 playing for the Triple-A team, the Minneapolis Millers.
Playing for the Baltimore Orioles
In 1953, the St. Louis Browns baseball team moved and became the new Baltimore Orioles. Chuck Diering was chosen by the Orioles in the 1953 Rule 5 draft. This meant he got a chance to play a regular role again.
He played in 265 games for the Orioles in 1954 and 1955. In 1954, he was even named the team's first-ever Most Valuable Player! However, by the middle of 1956, he struggled with his hitting. This led to him losing his regular spot on the team.
His last game as an Oriole was on June 24, 1956. He played as a defensive replacement against the Detroit Tigers. After that, he continued to play baseball in the minor leagues until 1957.
