The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a very old and special church in a place called Gwernesney, in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is known as a Grade I listed building. This means it is a really important and protected historical site. Since 2017, a group called the Friends of Friendless Churches has been taking care of this beautiful church.
History and Design
This church has been around for a long time! It was first built in the 1200s. But many parts of it were changed and added in the 1400s. The church is made from a type of stone called Old Red Sandstone.
Special Features
In the 1850s, a person named John Pollard Seddon helped to fix up the church. He worked on the "double bell gable," which is the part of the church where the bells hang.
Inside the church, you can find a very old wooden screen. This screen dates back to the late medieval period. It is considered "of particular interest" because it is so old and well-preserved.
The church also has old records of important events. These include a register of baptisms (when people are welcomed into the church) and burials (when people are laid to rest). These records go all the way back to the year 1758. The marriage records start even earlier, from 1757.
