Discovering the Church's Past
This old church was built around the year 1200. Back then, Kingsbury was just a tiny village, more like a small group of houses. The land around the church used to belong to a very important person named Sir Robert Peel. He was a Prime Minister, which means he was the leader of the government in the United Kingdom.
What Are the Marks on the Porch?
If you look closely at the stones of the church porch, you might see some interesting grooves. These marks are from people sharpening their arrows! Some people think soldiers made them. However, it's more likely that hunters or local villagers used them. Everyone had to be good with a longbow back then. They would practice their archery skills at nearby targets.
A War Grave at the Church
The churchyard is a peaceful place. It holds the grave of a soldier from the Royal Engineers. This soldier bravely served during World War II. His grave is cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
St Peter & St Paul Today
Today, the Church of St Peter & St Paul is part of the Diocese of Birmingham. This is a large area that many churches belong to. It is also part of the Deanery of Polesworth.
The Kingsbury and Baxterley Group
This church is the main one in a group of local churches. This group includes churches in Baxterley, Merevale, Hurley, and Wood End. These churches work together. Since October 8, 2014, the Revd. Dr. John White has been the Priest-in-Charge for this group of churches.
