The Church of St Roch is a very old church in a small village called Pendomer, in Closworth, Somerset, England. It was built a long, long time ago in the 1300s! This church is so special that it's officially protected as a Grade II* listed building, which means it's an important historical site.

History of the Church

This church is named after Saint Roch, a saint known for helping people. It was built in the 14th century, which means sometime between 1300 and 1399. Some people even think it might have been built as early as 1297.

Later, in the 15th century (the 1400s), the church was changed and updated. Today, it is part of the Church of England's Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Church Architecture and Design

The Church of St Roch is made from stone. It has special decorative parts called hamstone dressings, which are made from a type of golden-coloured limestone. The roofs are covered with clay tiles.

The church has a simple layout with one main room. It also has a tall, two-part tower at the west end. This tower has a parapet at the top, which is like a low wall.

Inside the church, you can find some very old things. There's a special memorial from 1328. There's also a stone statue, called an effigy, of a knight. People believe this knight is John de Domer, who lived a long time ago. You can also see small pieces of stained glass from the 15th century in some of the windows.
