Train Travel in Churchville
Churchville once had its own train station. This station was part of a line that helped people travel to and from the area.
A Look Back at Train Service
In the mid-1980s, Churchville grew a lot. Many people moved there to live and travel to work. However, on January 14, 1983, the train service stopped. The trains were old and needed repairs, and the company, SEPTA, did not have enough money to fix them. So, the service was stopped "temporarily."
After the trains stopped, buses tried to take their place. But people did not like the bus service as much as the trains. So, the bus service also ended in 1999.
In 1995, the Churchville Historic District was recognized as an important historical place.
Hopes for Future Train Service
Since 1983, many people in Churchville have wanted the train service to come back. They believe it would help with traffic.
In 2009, a group called PA-TEC started talking about bringing trains back. They want to make the train line electric, which was a plan from the 1970s. Many local leaders support this idea. SEPTA has said they would bring back service if there is strong support from the community.
