Early Life and Learning

Cindy McTee was born in Tacoma, Washington. She loved music from a young age. She studied at several universities. These included Pacific Lutheran University and Yale University. She also studied at the Academy of Music in Kraków in Poland. Her teachers were famous composers like Krzysztof Penderecki.

Teaching Music

McTee taught at Pacific Lutheran University for three years. In 1984, she joined the University of North Texas College of Music. She became a Full Professor there in 1995. By 2000, she was a Regents Professor. This is a very high teaching honor. She also led the Composition Studies department for five years. In 2010, she retired from the University of North Texas. She is now a Regents Professor Emeritus. This means she keeps her title after retiring.
