Citrus City is a small community in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is an area that the government counts for population, but it is not an officially incorporated town. In 2020, about 3,291 people lived there.

Citrus City is part of a larger group of cities. These include McAllen, Edinburg, and Mission. This area is known as a Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The community was started in 1943. This was during World War II. A builder named Howard Moffitt founded it. He wanted to create a place for growing oranges and grapefruits. He was known for building simple, practical houses. However, the water system in the area was too salty. This made it hard to grow fruit. So, the plans for a big town changed. Some of Moffitt's original houses can still be seen in Citrus City today.
