In 2020, about 9,302 people lived in Citrus Hills. This was a big jump from 7,470 people in 2010. Citrus Hills is part of the larger Homosassa Springs, Florida area.

The name "Citrus Hills" comes from a planned community called The Villages of Citrus Hills. This community was first started in the 1970s by Gerald Nash and Sam Tamposi. Even though it sounds similar to "The Villages," another large community in Florida, they are not connected.
