Madera, also known as Ciudad Madera, is a town in the mountains of northwestern Chihuahua, Mexico. It is the main town of the Madera municipality. In 2010, about 15,447 people lived there.
The town is known for its logging industry. Madera means "wood" in Spanish. There used to be a large American company with big lumber mills here. You can still find a part of the town called "barrio americano" with old American-style wooden houses. New factories have also created more jobs for the people living in Madera.
Madera is located 2,112 meters (6,929 feet) above sea level. It was founded in 1906. The town is about 276 kilometers northwest of Chihuahua, the state capital. It is also 536 kilometers southwest of Ciudad Juárez, which is near the U.S. border.

History of Madera
Madera has been an important place for events in Mexican history.
Important Events
- Cabalgata Binacional Villista: Madera is often the starting point for this special horse ride. A cavalcade is a procession of people riding horses.
- September 23, 1965: A group of people attacked the military in Madera. This event led to the naming of a group called the "Liga 23 de Septiembre". They chose this name to remember those involved in the attack.

Since 1966, Madera has been important for the Catholic Church.
Church Status
- Territorial Prelature: From April 25, 1966, Madera was the main seat of a special church area called the Territorial Prelature of Madera.
- Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera: Later, this area became a larger church region called the Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera. Its main church, or cathedral, is now in Cuauhtémoc.
- San Pedro Church: Madera's San Pedro church, which is dedicated to Saint Peter, was given the special title of a co-cathedral. This means it shares the status of a cathedral with the main one in Cuauhtémoc.

- Subtropical Highland Climate: This climate means Madera has warm and wet summers. Its winters are dry with very cold nights.
- Frost and Snow: Frost happens almost every morning from October to April. However, daytime temperatures usually get above freezing. Snow falls about 7 days each year on average. More snow falls on the higher mountain peaks.
