Clarence Woodrow Jones was born on November 7, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a former American professional baseball player and coach. Clarence played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs in 1967 and 1968. He was a left-handed batter and thrower.

Playing Baseball

Clarence Jones played baseball as an outfielder and first baseman. He had a short but notable career in professional baseball.

Major League Baseball

Clarence played 58 games in Major League Baseball. During his time with the Chicago Cubs, he hit two home runs. He also had 16 RBIs, which means he helped his teammates score 16 runs. His batting average was .248.

Playing in Japan

After playing in the MLB, Clarence Jones moved to Japan to play baseball. He joined the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the Pacific League. He became a very successful player there.

In 1974, Clarence hit 38 home runs. This made him the first foreign player to win a home run title in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). A home run title means he hit more home runs than anyone else in the league that year. He led the Pacific League again in 1976, hitting 36 home runs.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Clarence Jones became a baseball coach. He coached for two different teams in Major League Baseball.

He was the hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves from 1989 to 1998. Later, he coached for the Cleveland Indians from 2000 to 2001.

Family Life

Clarence Jones is a father to two sons. One of his sons is the actor Richard T. Jones. His other son, Clarence Jones Jr., is a high school basketball coach.
