Clarisa Rut Hardy Raskovan was born on December 15, 1945, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a psychologist, anthropologist, writer, and politician from Chile. She served as the Minister for Social Development and Planning during the first time Michelle Bachelet was president.

Clarisa Hardy's Early Life

Clarisa Hardy was born into a Jewish family. Her family had to leave their home in Europe to escape the Nazis. They moved to South America. Clarisa arrived in Chile when she was five years old. Her father, Boris Hardy, was a filmmaker.

She went to the Scuola Italiana in Santiago for her schooling. Later, she studied psychology at the University of Chile. She then earned a master's degree in social anthropology from the University of Oxford in England.

Clarisa Hardy's Career in Public Service

Clarisa Hardy started her career in public service in 1972. She was named Human Resources Manager at a state-owned company called Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (Corfo). This company helped develop industries in Chile.

In 1974, Hardy left Chile. She went to teach at the School of Psychology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Later, from 1982 to 1983, she worked as a researcher in Mexico. She was at the Center for Social and Economic Studies of the Third World (Ceestem).

At the end of 1983, she returned to Chile. She began working on social issues. In 1990, she became the head of the Social Affairs Department. This department was part of the Ministry for Social Development and Planning. Later, she was chosen to be the Executive Secretary. This role involved coordinating social affairs between different government ministries.

In 1994, she started working for Fundación Chile 21. This was a group that studied ideas for social progress. It was started by Ricardo Lagos, who later became president. Clarisa Hardy was in charge of workshops about social issues. In 1996, she became the coordinator of the Social Affairs Department there. At the same time, she advised the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

In 2000, Clarisa Hardy became the Executive Director of Fundación Chile 21. She also joined the advisory committee of the National Women's Service (Sernam). She stayed in these roles until 2005.

In 2006, President Michelle Bachelet appointed her as the Minister for Social Development and Planning. In this important role, she helped plan how to improve people's lives and social well-being. She served in this position until 2008.

In 2014, she was named Executive Director of Fundación Dialoga. This is another group that studies progressive ideas. She took on this role after Michelle Bachelet was elected president of Chile for a second time.
