Clarksville is a small town in Allegany County, New York. In 2020, about 982 people lived here. The town is named after S.N. Clark, who worked for the Holland Land Company.
Clarksville is located in the southwest part of Allegany County. It is northeast of the city of Olean.

History of Clarksville
The first people to settle in this area arrived around 1822. The town of Clarksville was officially created in 1835. It was formed by taking a part of the nearby town of Cuba.
Geography of Clarksville
Clarksville covers an area of about 94 square kilometers (36 square miles). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.05 square kilometers, is water.
The western edge of the town forms the border with Cattaraugus County. New York State Route 305 is an important road that runs north and south through Clarksville.

In 2020, the town of Clarksville had a population of 982 people. Over the years, the number of people living here has changed. For example, in 1840, there were only 326 residents. The population grew steadily for many years, reaching its highest point in 2010 with 1,161 people. Since then, the population has seen a small decrease.
Most people living in Clarksville are White. The town has a mix of families and individuals. Many households include children under 18. The population includes young people, adults, and seniors.
