Clementson is a small, unincorporated community located in Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
You can find Clementson in northern Minnesota, just east of the town of Baudette. It's situated right along Minnesota State Highway 11, making it easy to reach by road.
History of Clementson
Clementson got its name from an important person in the area's past: Helec Clementson. Helec was a county commissioner, which means he was part of the local government that helped manage the county. He also owned a sawmill in the community. Sawmills are places where logs are cut into lumber, which was a very important industry for building homes and other structures in the early days.
A Community Post Office
For many years, Clementson had its own post office. This post office was open from 1901 until 1964. A post office is a vital part of any community, allowing people to send and receive mail, which was especially important before the internet and cell phones. The closing of the post office in 1964 marked a change for the small community.
