Cleveland is a community in North Carolina, USA. It is located in the northwestern part of Johnston County. This area is called an "unincorporated community." This means it does not have its own local government like a city or town.
Cleveland is about 243 feet (74 meters) above sea level. People sometimes call it by other names. These names include Cleveland Crossings, Cleveland Community, Cleveland School, or 40/42. The name "40/42" comes from where two major roads meet. These roads are I-40 and NC 42. This intersection is a busy place for businesses. Another road, NC 50, runs along the western side of the community.
Most people in Cleveland live along Cleveland Road. This road is also known as Cleveland School Road. Even though Cleveland is not a town, its mail addresses use nearby towns. These towns are Garner, Clayton, and Benson.
The community is named after the old Cleveland School. This school used to teach students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Today, the old school grounds are a community center. They also have housing for older adults. There is a gym and many sports fields. The Greater Cleveland Athletic Association (GCAA) manages these fields. A part of Johnston Community College is also here. Nearby communities include McGee's Crossroads and Willow Spring.
Cleveland is growing very quickly. Many new homes have been built here. Because it is near Interstate 40, it has become a busy place for businesses. There have been ideas to make Cleveland an official town. However, these plans were put on hold in 1999. There is already a town called Cleveland in North Carolina. So, choosing a new name for this community has been a challenge.
