Clifford Daniel Hammonds, born on December 18, 1985, is an American professional basketball player. He is a talented point guard who played college basketball for the Clemson Tigers. He last played for Limburg United in the BNXT League.
Early Life and College Basketball Journey
Cliff Hammonds grew up in Cairo, Georgia, where he went to Cairo High School. He loved playing basketball and continued his journey at Clemson University.
Playing for the Clemson Tigers
During his four years with the Clemson Tigers, Cliff played in 134 games. He was a strong player, averaging about 11 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He also showed off his defensive skills with 1.7 steals per game.
Academic Achievements at Clemson
Cliff was not just a great athlete; he was also a brilliant student. In 2008, he graduated from Clemson with two different college degrees. He studied both architecture and psychology. He even won the first-ever Skip Prosser Award. This award celebrates the best student-athlete in men's basketball in the ACC.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Cliff Hammonds began his professional basketball career in Europe. He played for many different teams in several countries.
Starting in Turkey and Puerto Rico
Cliff's first team in Europe was Darüşşafaka in Turkey. He played there until December 2008. Then, he briefly joined Efes Pilsen for a few weeks. He played five games in the EuroLeague with them. After that, he returned to Darüşşafaka to finish the season. In the summer of 2009, Cliff played for Piratas de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico.
Playing in Greece and France
The next season, Cliff played for Peristeri in Greece. He had a great season, averaging almost 13 points and nearly 4 assists per game. In June 2010, he signed a one-year contract with ASVEL Basket in France.
Moving to Turkey and Bosnia
In August 2011, Cliff signed with Banvit in Turkey for a year. The following year, in August 2012, he joined KK Igokea in Bosnia.
Success with Alba Berlin
In July 2013, Cliff Hammonds signed a two-year deal with Alba Berlin in Germany. This was a very successful time for him. He helped the team win the German Basketball Cup in 2014. He was also named the Basketball Bundesliga Best Defensive Player twice, in 2014 and 2015.
Playing in the NBA Development League
After his time in Germany, Cliff was chosen by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the 2015 NBA Development League Draft. He was then traded to the Reno Bighorns.
More European Teams
In September 2016, Cliff signed with Limoges CSP in France. He later moved to another German club, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, in November 2016. In July 2017, he signed with s.Oliver Würzburg, another German team.
Playing in Belgium and Returning to Greece
On July 31, 2018, Cliff joined Proximus Spirou in Belgium. A year later, in August 2019, he returned to Greece to play for Ifaistos Limnou. In November 2020, he signed with Ionikos Nikaias, also in Greece.
Finishing His Career in Belgium
On January 7, 2021, Cliff Hammonds signed with Limburg United in Belgium. He played for them until 2025, marking the end of his professional playing career.
