Clodoaldo Tavares de Santana, known simply as Clodoaldo, is a famous former Brazilian footballer. He was born on September 25, 1949. Clodoaldo played as a defensive midfielder, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He was known for his amazing skills on the field.

Clodoaldo's Club Career

Clodoaldo spent most of his playing days with the Brazilian club Santos. He was a key player for them for many years. With Santos, he won several important championships.

Playing for Santos

During his time at Santos, Clodoaldo helped the team win five Campeonato Paulista titles. These are state championships in Brazil. He also won a national championship called the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. In addition, he helped Santos win the 1968 Intercontinental Supercup. This was a big international club competition.

Moving to Other Teams

When Clodoaldo was 29 years old, he had a serious knee injury. Because of this injury, he left Santos in 1979. He then joined a team in the NASL called Tampa Bay Rowdies. After playing for one season in the United States, he returned to Brazil. He joined another Brazilian club, Nacional-AM.

Clodoaldo's International Journey

Clodoaldo also played for the Brazilian national team. He represented his country 38 times between 1969 and 1974. His time with the national team was very successful.

Winning the World Cup

Clodoaldo was a vital part of the Brazil squad that won the 1970 FIFA World Cup. This was a huge achievement for him and his country. In the semi-final match against Uruguay, he scored an important goal that tied the game.

He is also remembered for a fantastic play in the final match against Italy. He dribbled past four opposing players in his own half of the field. This amazing dribble helped set up a famous goal scored by Carlos Alberto Torres. It was one of the most iconic moments in World Cup history.

Clodoaldo as a Coach

After he stopped playing football, Clodoaldo briefly became a coach. In 1982, he coached his former club, Santos. Later, in 2010, he took on the role of manager for the East Timor national team. However, he left this position after only three matches due to family reasons.
