Cloppenburg is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It's the main town of the Cloppenburg District and part of a region called Oldenburg Münsterland.
You can find Cloppenburg about 38 kilometers (24 miles) south-south-west of Oldenburg. It's in the Weser-Ems area, located between the city of Bremen and the border with the Netherlands.
The town is easy to reach! It's close to the A1 motorway, which connects important areas like the Ruhr region to cities such as Bremen and Hamburg. Another key road, the B213 highway, offers a direct route from the Netherlands to the A1.
Cloppenburg is a central hub for the southern Oldenburg region, which is mostly farming land. As the main administrative town for its district, it has many schools. There are also some industries here, like Lumberg, which makes connector systems, and Derby Cycle, known for its bikes.
From the 1970s to the 1990s, Cloppenburg had special cultural connections with St Munchins Parish in Limerick, Ireland. During this time, many groups of teens and young adults from both places visited each other. They stayed with families, creating a very successful exchange program and building friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Things to See in Cloppenburg
One of Cloppenburg's main attractions is the Museumsdorf Cloppenburg. This is a special open-air museum. It has many old buildings from the region that were carefully taken apart and then rebuilt in the museum. It's like stepping back in time to see how people used to live!
