Club Lake Ahoy facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Club Lake Ahoy was a super fun water park located in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA. It was special because it was built inside a huge man-made lake! Imagine diving from tall towers or zooming across the water on a zip-line that was over 20 feet (6.1 m) high.

Today, the City of Chesapeake owns the old park. They are thinking about turning it into a new city park for everyone to enjoy.

What Was Club Lake Ahoy Like?

Club Lake Ahoy was a private park in Chesapeake, Virginia. The main attraction was a giant swimming pool that looked like a lake. It had a strong concrete bottom. Workers brought in lots of sand to make a soft, sandy floor.

The water for the lake came from an artesian well. This means the water flowed up from deep underground! A small sandy beach went around most of the lake.

Fun Things to Do at the Park

The park had a main building with a snack bar where you could grab a bite. Inside, you could also play pool tables, video games, and pinball games.

Outside, near the front, there was a cool playground. It had wooden see-saws and really big swing sets. There was also a bath house and restrooms for changing and getting ready.

What Happened to the Park?

After many years, the owner sold Club Lake Ahoy. The lake was then drained of its water. Now, you can still see the empty blue concrete shell. Nature is slowly growing around the edges of the old lake.

Exciting Attractions at the Lake

Club Lake Ahoy was famous for its unique activities. These were not like what you would find at a regular pool!

Water Slides and Diving

There were many different water slides. They were all different heights. Water jets at the top made them super fast and fun!

You could also find several cement platforms in the water. These were great for resting or for diving into the lake.

Deep Diving and Zip Lines

One of the most exciting spots was a huge diving well. It had blue cement walls and very high diving boards. The water in this well was about 20 feet (6.1 m) deep!

Finally, there was a thrilling zip line. It started from the top of a tall wooden tower. Then, it zoomed all the way down into the water!
