Cnoc Coinnich is a mountain in Scotland. It is found in a beautiful area called Ardgoil, within the Argyll & Bute region. This mountain is part of a group of hills known as the Arrochar Alps. It's a popular spot for hikers and people who love the outdoors.

What is Cnoc Coinnich?

Cnoc Coinnich is a type of mountain called a Corbett. In Scotland, mountains are often grouped by their height. A Corbett is a mountain that is between 762 meters (2,500 feet) and 914 meters (3,000 feet) tall. It must also have a drop of at least 152 meters (500 feet) on all sides. This means it stands out from the land around it.

A Mountain That Grew Taller!

For a long time, Cnoc Coinnich was not quite tall enough to be a Corbett. It was just one meter short! This meant it was classified as a "Graham" instead. Grahams are mountains between 600 meters (1,969 feet) and 762 meters (2,500 feet) tall.

But in July 2016, something exciting happened. The Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC) decided to measure the mountain again. They found its true height is 763.5 meters! This new measurement made Cnoc Coinnich officially a Corbett. The Ordnance Survey, which makes maps, agreed with this new height. They now show it as 764 meters on their maps.

Exploring Cnoc Coinnich

Cnoc Coinnich is a great mountain to climb. You can start your adventure from two main places. One is the village of Lochgoilhead. The other is Ardgartan, which is on the A83 road. The mountain is also quite close to the Cowal Way, a long walking path.

Many people like to climb Cnoc Coinnich along with another nearby mountain. This other mountain is called The Brack. It is also a Corbett. The Brack is on the other side of a low pass between two hills. This pass is known as a "bealach" or "col."

The Summit

When you reach the top of Cnoc Coinnich, you will find a small pile of stones. This is called a cairn. It marks the highest point of the mountain. From the summit, you can enjoy amazing views of the Scottish landscape.
