The coat of arms of Morocco is a special symbol for the country. It is also known as the royal coat of arms because it represents the King of Morocco. This important symbol was first used on August 14, 1957. It was designed by two graphic artists named Gauthier and Hainaut.

What Does the Coat of Arms Show?

The Moroccan coat of arms has many interesting parts. Each part tells a story about the country.

The Shield and its Symbols

The main part of the coat of arms is a shield. On this shield, you can see several important symbols:

  • A green pentagram: This is a five-pointed star. It is a traditional symbol of Morocco and represents the five pillars of Islam.
  • A red background: The green star is placed on a red background. Red is a color often seen in Moroccan flags and symbols.
  • The Atlas Mountains: Behind the star, you can see a picture of the Atlas Mountains. These are a famous mountain range in Morocco.
  • A rising sun: Above the mountains, there is a bright rising sun. This can symbolize a new day, hope, and the future.

The Royal Crown

On top of the shield is the Royal crown of Morocco. This crown shows that Morocco is a monarchy, meaning it is ruled by a king. The crown is golden and decorated with pearls.

The Lions as Supporters

On each side of the shield, there is a lion. These lions act as "supporters," holding up the shield. Lions are often used in heraldry (the study of coats of arms) to represent strength, courage, and power.

The Motto

Below the shield, there is a ribbon with an inscription in Arabic. The inscription says: (Arabic: إن تنصروا الله ينصركم). This means, "If you glorify God, He will glorify you." This motto comes from the Quran, which is the holy book of Islam. It is a message about faith and support.
