The Coburg Hills are a group of smaller mountains, often called foothills. They are part of the western Cascade Range in Oregon, a state in the United States. These hills are found in Lane and Linn counties. You can find them northeast of Eugene and east of Coburg. They sit between the Mohawk Valley and the Willamette Valley.

Exploring the Coburg Hills

The Coburg Hills are not very tall, but they offer great views. The highest point in these hills is about 2,253 feet high. This spot is known as Coburg Ridge. It's a fun place to explore nature.

What is the Hayworth Saddle?

One special spot in the Coburg Hills is called the Hayworth Saddle. A "saddle" is like a low dip or pass between two higher points in a mountain range. This saddle is located at the northern end of the hills.

How the Hayworth Saddle Got Its Name

The Hayworth Saddle got its official name in 2008. Before that, it didn't have a specific name. A newspaper writer named Bob Welch from The Register-Guard newspaper asked his readers for ideas. People voted for "Hayworth Ridge" to honor a local family. This family had been farming in the area since 1875.

The Oregon Geographic Names Board decided to change the name slightly to "Hayworth Saddle." They then suggested this name to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. This board is in charge of naming places across the country. They officially approved the name in September 2008.

Peaks in the Coburg Hills

Even though they are foothills, the Coburg Hills have several individual peaks. Some of these include Spores Point, Buck Mountain, Mount Tom, Round Mountain, and Bald Mountain. Each of these peaks adds to the natural beauty of the area.
