Coburn is part of the larger State College, Pennsylvania area. In 2020, about 210 people lived there.
Geography of Coburn
Coburn is located in the eastern part of Centre County, Pennsylvania. It sits in a place called Penn Township. The community is found where two creeks meet: Pine Creek and Penns Creek.
From Coburn, Penns Creek turns south. It then starts to flow through a series of mountain ridges. The first of these is First Mountain, right at the southern edge of Coburn. The town of Millheim is about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of Coburn.
The United States Census Bureau says that Coburn covers a total area of about 0.35 square miles (0.90 km2). All of this area is land.
History of Coburn
Coburn grew thanks to the Lewisburg and Tyrone Railroad. This railroad helped connect the town to other places.
However, parts of the railway tracks were later closed. The section of track east of Coburn was no longer used after 1970. The section to the west was abandoned in 1972.
