Cody Thomas Webster was born on June 1, 1991. He is a former American football punter. He played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers. While there, he set a record for the most punting yards in a single game. In 2013, he was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year. Later, Webster played for the Brooklyn Bolts in the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL).
High School Football Star
At Central Dauphin East High School, Cody played many positions on the varsity football team. He was a punter, placekicker, defensive back, quarterback, and wide receiver. He was chosen as a first-team All-Mid Penn Conference punter four times. He also earned all-state honors three times.
Cody decided to play for Purdue on October 4, 2009. People thought he would be a starter right away because Purdue's main punter was graduating. He officially signed with Purdue on February 3, 2010. When he finished high school, experts like Rivals.com and ESPN ranked him among the best kickers in the country.
College Career at Purdue
Webster played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers. He studied agriculture while in college. For four seasons, from 2010 to 2013, he was the Boilermakers' main punter.
In 2010, Cody kicked a 79-yard punt against Northwestern. This was the longest punt of his college career. Even as a freshman, he was fifth in the Big Ten conference for his average punting yards.
Cody received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2010 and 2012. He was named second-team All-Big Ten in 2011. In his senior year, 2013, he earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. He also led the Big Ten in punting average that year. In 2013, he was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year. He was also a finalist for the Ray Guy Award on November 25, 2013, which is given to the best college punter.
Professional Football
After the 2014 NFL draft, Cody Webster was not chosen by any NFL team. However, he got a chance to try out for the Pittsburgh Steelers at their rookie training camp.
In 2015, he signed to play for the Brooklyn Bolts. This team was part of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL).
