Coldwater is a small place in Wayne County, Missouri, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes or businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town.

Coldwater is found in the northern part of Wayne County. It's located just east of U.S. Route 67. This is a major road. The community is about seventeen miles south of Fredericktown. It is also about one mile south of the line between Madison and Wayne counties. Coldwater sits near Cedar Creek. This creek flows about three miles west of the St. Francis River.

A Look at Coldwater's History

Coldwater has a simple but interesting history. A post office was first opened here in 1848. At that time, it was called "Cold Water."

The name was changed to "Coldwater" in 1894. This is the name we know today. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1967. The community got its name from a natural spring. This spring had very cold water and was located near where the original town was built.
