Exploring Coldwater Lake
Coldwater Lake is a popular spot for fun and relaxation. Many homes are built around its edges. It's about 3 miles north of Michigan's southern border. The lake is also the source of the Coldwater River, which flows north towards the city of Coldwater, Michigan.
Connected Lakes and Channels
The lake has many channels that connect it to other areas. One channel links Coldwater Lake to a chain of five other lakes. This chain of lakes ends in Quincy, Michigan. The lakes connected to Coldwater Lake are East Long Lake, Wright Lake, Archer Lake, Middle Lake, and Marble Lake. Even though it's 92 feet deep in some spots, much of Coldwater Lake is quite shallow. It has many sandbars and shallow areas.
Fishing Fun
Coldwater Lake is a great place for fishing! Yearly fishing contests are held here. Anglers, or people who fish, can catch many different types of fish. Some common fish include Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Yellow Perch.
Iyopawa Island
On the southern part of the lake, there is an island called Iyopawa Island. Many people live on this island. In the middle of the island, there is a nine-hole golf course.
Boat Landings
Coldwater Lake has a public boat landing. This is a place where anyone can launch their boat. There are also two more boat landings at the lake's two marinas. Marinas are places where boats are stored and serviced.
Coldwater Lake History
Coldwater Lake was affected by a big storm in 1965. This storm was part of the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak. Many houses around the lake were damaged during this event.
