How College Hall Started

College Hall first opened its doors in 1882. Back then, it was created especially for young women students. Many of these students were attending UCL or the London School of Medicine for Women.

Some amazing women helped start it, including Annie Leigh Browne, who believed strongly in education for everyone. The very first leader of the hall, Eleanor Grove, even volunteered to work without pay!

College Hall Through the Years

In 1910, College Hall became an official place for students to live, recognized by the University of London. It moved to its current spot on Malet Street in 1932.

During World War II, the hall was used as a club for soldiers from other countries. Sadly, it was damaged by bombs in April 1941. After the war, in 1965, the University of London took over running College Hall.
